Nothing can fully prepare you for life as a stay-at-home dad. The work is relentless, the challenges are real, and yet the opportunity to lead and serve your family more deeply than ever before makes it profoundly rewarding. Humble Service is the guidebook for dads stepping into this demanding and life-giving role.
This book helps you discern whether staying home is the right choice for your family, offering a realistic look at what the life of daily service entails. It grounds fatherhood in a philosophy that sees parenting not as a caricature but as a sacred mission within the vocation of marriage. And it equips you with hard-won lessons, daily routines, and practical tips—the “cheat codes” learned through years of experience—to help you avoid pitfalls and find joy in the work.
With clarity, encouragement, and honesty, Humble Service will get you up to speed quickly, giving you the perspective and tools to serve your family better than you ever have before.
When I first became a stay-at-home dad, life was nothing like I expected. In the early years, I often felt bored and unsure of what I was supposed to be doing. With just one child and a small apartment, I had time to figure things out. But as my family grew, so did the demands. Today, with three young children, my days are packed from sunrise to bedtime, and I’m constantly in motion: caring, teaching, managing, and still trying to carve out time to care for myself.
Through trial and error, I learned that staying home requires far more than I ever imagined. Without guidance, I made mistakes, felt lost, and had to learn the hard way what it takes to lead and serve a family from home. Humble Service is the book I wish I’d had then: a blend of philosophy, faith, and practical strategies to help dads find purpose and confidence in this role.
I wrote this book to offer stay-at-home dads the clarity and direction I lacked: a vision for fatherhood rooted in service, and a set of tools to help you live it well. This is the guidebook I hope will help you become the dad your family deserves.
